The Centre for Public Policy Alternatives (CPPA), invites you to participate at its forthcoming 1-day Policy Dialogue, titled: “Implementation of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights for Nigeria’s Extractive Industry”.

Sustainable and peaceful coexistence of extractive companies with host communities is an integral part of the elusive social capital fabric in many resource-rich countries particularly across the developing world. A resource expected to improve social and economic livelihoods soon evokes protests, riots, severe tensions, conflicts and extreme incidences of insecurity and human rights violations. The Voluntary Principles on Security and Human rights (VPs) targeted at the extractive industry were set up to address these often-intractable challenges by a global group of stakeholders (countries, companies and civil society).

With Nigeria being one of the target countries for VP implementation, CPPA has put together a Policy Dialogue to address issues in context. The discussions will also review findings from a recent study on Voluntary Principles in Nigeria, carried out by the New Nigeria Foundation (NNF).

The policy dialogue is a closed session event scheduled for Wednesday, 16 December 2015 from 9am to 4pm at the Nigerian Air force Conference Centre in Abuja. Panelists and participants are drawn from government, diplomatic community, oil and gas, security, academic, civil society, human rights opinion and thought leaders from across various energy, security and development sectors. Major results expected include: a set of policy recommendations for adoption of the VPs agreed upon by the different stakeholder groups; and policy recommendations for incorporation of VPs in the Nigerian oil and gas regulatory and operating system.

You can confirm your participation via email with info@cpparesearch.org by Tuesday 1st December 2015. For more on CPPA and NNF, please visit www.cpparesearch.org and http://www.nnfng.org. For additional queries, kindly contact Josiah Aramide on 01-454-9403 or josiah.aramide@cpparesearch.org.
