The Population Question
Nigeria’s population is currently over 180 million people. At an average fertility of 5.5 births per woman, this figure is projected to increase by 10% in 2020, 43% in 2030 and 120% by 2050 to over 300 million people. How do our culture, belief systems and norms influence our population growth or control? How prepared are we – as Nigerians – in feeding ourselves, providing the much needed infrastructures, building quality human capital and conducting credible enumeration exercises?
